the flying runnerThe Flying Runner is an online magazine and gift shop for runners. We aim to spread the love of running and share helpful information across the running community, including news, articles, resources and expert input.

We spotted a need for a new dedicated shop to buy beautiful gifts for runners in the UK. There are lots of brilliant places to buy kit and shoes, but we noticed a real lack of good places to lay your hands on lovely treats or rewards for hard effort… so we decided the only thing to be done was to set this up ourselves!

Our aim has been to select products very carefully that are sustainably sourced, ethically sound, and the majority of which are produced in Britain. We support small producers and manufacturers, as well as charitable organisations who make unique products for us.

We love to hear from our readers and shop customers, and welcome any new ideas for products or resources. Please add comments after articles or drop us a line via our contact page.

Who We Are

About the Flying Runner - Sarah Wightman

Sarah – ready to run!

Sarah Wightman

Hi, I’m Sarah. I’m an incurable runner, as well as happily married to Mark, and mum to Alex (10) and Abbie (7).  I decided to set up The Flying Runner because I’ve seen how running can benefit so many different types of people in different ways, and I’m passionate about spreading the love of my sport.

I used to enjoy just jogging, but then discovered I like to thrash myself by running as fast as I can. I joined Cambridge & Coleridge AC a couple of years ago, and love the camaradie and support of belonging to a club. I’m trying to sneak in some more PBs before I get too old, and I’m currently trying to get my marathon PB down from 3:08 to under 3 hours. I was county champion for Cambridgeshire Road Race League in 2013, and have won a couple of races here and there when nobody better happens to show up. I’m also a UKA Leader in Running Fitness and enjoy helping out with coaching at my club.

I finally found the time to put this website together while recovering from a badly broken bone in my foot – silver linings and all that, eh?! Thankfully I’m now back to running.

Lin Skinner

Lin with a shiny medal.

Hi! I’m Lin, lifelong lover of sports and fitness, mummy (to Hope aged 8 and Holly aged 6), runner, triathlete, volunteer and wife. I’ve competed in a huge variety of sports from athletics to gymnastics to slalom racing to rugby, most recently surprising everyone by taking the gold at the London Triathlon Super Sprint distance in 2015.

Running has always been a key element of fitness and I love to run. I am a believer in the value of cross training for runners, and I am pretty fast for a middle aged mum! I am qualified in Personal Fitness, Exercise to Music – Fitness Instruction, Bootcamps and Circuits and also hold a Leadership in Running Fitness Qualification with UKA.

I can often be found bombing it round my local parkrun (5k is my absolute favourite), helping out with school running club or setting up a “fun” circuit for my kids in the garden. Until recently I ran the popular “Fit in the Park” outdoor exercise classes in Southwark Park.

I am so excited to be a part of the Flying Runner. I hope we can long continue to serve the running community with lovely gifts and rewards and interesting articles!
